Spiritual Warfare for the Christian is when we fight our enemy, the devil. The scripture makes it plain that we do not war against flesh and blood, i.e. other people (although we often think other people are the problem), but we fight against that old serpent, the devil, who is also called Satan (Eph. 6:12, Rev 20:2), the one who influences people.
Make no mistake about it. We are in a battle. It is strange that today we receive so little teaching on this—as if the devil was not real, when he is. Satan comes as a lion seeking whom he may devour (1st Peter 5:8).
The Scriptures (inspired by the Holy Spirit, 2 Tim 3:16) tell us to put on the whole armor of God that we may be able to stand in the evil day (Eph. 6:11-18). It says we wrestle against principalities and powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, and against spiritual wickedness in heavenly places. It refers to us as soldiers (2nd Tim 2:3), and talks about our weapons, especially the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God (Eph 6:17).
The Bible also tells us that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow of things in heaven and things on the earth. We have a great Savior, a Captain to lead us. But in all battles, there are casualties. When we’re hurt or lose someone we love, it is not time to give up. It’s hard and painful and yes, we grieve. Take the time, but know that God hasn’t changed. He’s still the same God you trusted through all the other battles. Get up and love and move forward. The Bible assures us that we win the war.
