Writing for God, Fighting Human Trafficking

Linda Rodante

God is Not Your Genie.

God is greater than our minds can comprehend. He created the worlds–all of them–the million stars out there, the nebula, the DNA that keeps our bodies and minds running and keeps us as separate individuals. He makes each snowflake unique. He created elephants, crocodiles, squirrels, great blue whales, starfish, jellyfish, Scarlet Macaws, hummingbirds, the mountains, the rivers, the ocean, the sky–he made them all–and us (very unique human beings). Yet somehow we think he should bow before us, do our bidding, and NEVER tell us what we can’t do!

We’ve mixed things up lately. I want to say today that God is not your genie. He is not my genie. We bow down to him, not him to us. We were made in his likeness. Think about how precious that is. He made us like him–so we could think and talk and love and have communion with him.

So, why are we trying to make him like us? Or make his Word (i.e. The Bible) say what we want it to say? So we can do what we want to do without any consequences?

Have you read the Book of Job recently? How about Romans? God asked Job, where were you when I made the worlds? And Paul, through the Holy Spirit, asks, “Will the clay say to the potter, why have you made me thus?” In other words, who do we think we are telling God the way life should be? That he can be the co-pilot in our life? Or the spare tire in our vehicle?

He is the Creator, he is the great I Am, he is Savior and Lord. And that is what we see and know and take advantage of. He loves us, died for us, and because of His grace and mercy, we think we can do what we want and have no problems.

But that is not true. He established sowing and reaping in the earth. When we do what is wrong, we will reap the consequences. Our whole culture is reaping those consequences today. It is tottering. Who knows if it will last.

But the thing is, God still has a Way that takes us to love and freedom, to him and to heaven. Will we turn to him and accept it? Or will we go on our merry way thinking that we can take whatever parts of his Godliness and his Word that we want and dump the rest?

Because the same God who says, “I have loved you with an everlasting love,” also says, there is a day of judgment coming when he will separate the goats from the sheep–those that are stubborn and go their own way from those that follow–Him.

The strange thing is we think we know the best way, and that it’s our way. When actually, we don’t know anything at all. There is only One Way–and that way, for us, now and forever, is the best way.

Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes unto to the Father but by me.”
