Hats off to Florida’s Attorney General Pam Bondi. The Attorney General announced a statewide plan, From Instant Message to Instant Nightmare, that will help raise awareness about the issue of human trafficking.
The plan is to bring to the forefront this horrible crime by means of billboards, ads on bus shelters, and in malls and to ask parents to take a lead in telling their children about human trafficking and how to be safe so that their children do not become victims. Protecting their children from online predators and other abusers close to home is something most parents welcome.
The average age of children entering sex trafficking is reportedly between 12 and 14 years old, and the National Human Trafficking Resource Center estimates that there are 27 million people enslaved through out the world. Florida ranks number three in the nation for human trafficking, and the Tampa Bay area number three in the state.
It is time parents and law enforcement took a stand against this horror. Thank God for Attorney General’s like Pam Bondi.
